Enjoying National Camping Month

Enjoying National Camping Month at The Oaks at Zephyrhills!

Have you been camping lately? June is National Camping Month, and nature is calling! If you are planning to go RVing in Central Florida this summer, we invite you to spend some time under the scenic oak trees at The Oaks of Zephyrhills, a Good Sam-certified and age-restricted (55+) RV and mobile home community located between Tampa and Orlando. Whether you are a veteran RVer or a first-time camper, here are our top three tips for a great outdoor experience this summer:

  1. Make a plan.

Think about the places in Florida you would like to visit, find a campground nearby, and contact them to book as soon as possible. Recently, the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) surveyed 180 million leisure travelers and found that 31 percent of them are planning a summer camping trip – so RV parks and campgrounds are filling up fast.

Also, make sure to research the attractions in the region you plan to visit. Zephyrhills is known as the City of Pure Water, Tree City USA, and the Skydive Capital of the World, so there are many outdoor activities to experience here! Whether you’re interested in kayaking in a crystal-clear river, taking to the skies for a sky diving lesson, nature watching in a park, or just relaxing by the campfire, you can do it in Zephyrhills.

  1. Be prepared.

Before you head out for your summer trip, make a checklist of camping essentials including RV accessories, kitchen and cooking supplies, and clothing and personal items for your trip. Take a first aid kit and sunblock with you, too!

Also, make sure to bring your rain gear if you are visiting Florida this summer. Late June through August is the rainy season, and you can expect a rain shower most summer afternoons! (You can still have a great time RV camping, even when the weather is not cooperating! Make sure to bring games – and a weather radio – on your trip!)

As you are preparing for your trip, take note of Florida’s tax holidays, too. “Freedom Week,” a tax holiday on outdoor gear and recreational activities, lasts from July 1 to 7, 2021. The purpose of this tax holiday is to encourage people to explore the outdoors as COVID-19 restrictions ease. Items used for outdoor recreation such as tents, sleeping bags, sunscreen, grills, recreational water supplies, and fishing supplies will also not be taxed during Freedom Week.

  1. Have fun!

Most importantly, your summer trip should be a time to relax and enjoy yourself. Getting outdoors helps you reduce stress and anxiety, allowing you to escape from the pressures of everyday life. Studies have shown that spending time in nature can improve your mental, social, and physical health.

Surrounded by majestic trees and pastoral hills, The Oaks at Zephyrhills offers spacious RV lots with full hookups in a beautiful setting, allowing you to experience camping at its best (without sacrificing amenities). When you stay with us, you can truly “Stay Your Way”! Take a refreshing dip in the pool, play shuffleboard with newfound friends, and enjoy your time in Zephyrhills.

And, while it’s great to take a break from social media while you’re camping, The Oaks at Zephyrhills offers free Wi-Fi to all residents so you can stay connected to friends and family back home!
